Many tour operators organize conducted tours to Israel on a regular basis. Citizens from majority of North American and European countries and visitors from Russia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and Australia do not require a visa before arriving in Israel. About 50 international airlines have scheduled flights to the Ben-Gurion International Airport at a distance of 12 km from Tel Aviv and 40 km from Jerusalem. From the airport, tourists take the direct train running every 30 minutes in the day and every hour in the night. Buses are available to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other towns of Israel. Shared taxis are also operated from outside the airport. Still, the Shabbat period from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening does not allow the running of trains and buses. This should be kept in mind while traveling to Israel.
